Field tests confirm real-life benefits, preferences and value. They identify product problems. They form the most relevant part of testing and are the true basis of valid product claims. Field tests require many data points to get a complete picture.
For this reason Outlast® has conducted a comprehensive field-testing programs whereby Outlast® garments and products are provided to select consumers for a three week trial periods. Testers were encouraged to use the product as much as possible and in as many types of situations as possible. Each participant evaluated a specific type of product containing Outlast® technology, such as bedding, base layers, footwear or outerwear. As part of the program they were asked to fill out a weekly summary of their impression with respect to comfort and an overall summary of how the products responded to their changing environments.
An example: Field test with Outlast® bedding
For this field test 30 participants were selected. The testers were from different geographical regions from Alaska to Florida to ensure we had coverage of a variety of climate zones. 84% of had pre-existing sleeping problems.

The participants were given an Outlast® mattress pad and a comforter, without an explanation of the technology they received. Testers reported any observations or changes in their quality of sleep: 84% reported they slept more soundly, 71% woke up less frequently, 72% were “more compatible with their partner” and 67% had less night sweats.
